To reduce energy consumption, waste production, and travel related emissions, we have identified a 3-stage action plan that encompasses: (1) Measuring our impact and progress by aligning with independent industry leaders from the field of carbon management. Our current partnerships include Planet A, experts in calculating carbon footprint and offering software solutions to mitigate the effects, as well as Albert, which works to reduce the environmental impacts of TV and film productions, including providing certification against sustainable production standards. (2) Reducing the company’s carbon footprint by identifying, implementing or improving on environmentally focused best practices such as encouraging recycling, reducing waste, replacing plastic with environmentally friendly alternatives, locally sourced purchasing and ensuring essential business travel only. Brown Bag Films has an active environmental “Green Bag” committee whose mandate is to plan, design, and drive environmental initiatives on behalf of the company. The committee hosts events, shares resources and provides workshops. (3) Offsetting our impact by investing in initiatives that will proactively impact the environment and contribute to carbon storage. We are currently exploring options that include the planting of trees and supporting of natural forests, as well as purchasing carbon credits.

They are in production on THE SALMON'S CALL for Knowledge Network, a thought-provoking documentary told from the Indigenous perspective delving into the pressing issue of the declining salmon in British Columbia by up-and-coming director Joy Haskell. Andrew also recently produced on Screen Siren’s feature doc REVIVAL69: The Concert That Rocked The World for Crave/ARTE/Telefilm. Cedar Island’s feature documentary THE MAGNITUDE OF ALL THINGS (NFB/Telus/Telefilm) by Jennifer Abbott (The Corporation) won Best Canadian Feature Award at Planet in Focus, Best Nature & People Film in Ulju, South Korea, Creative Excellence Award at Banff, Audience Choice Award at DocLands in California in 2021, among others. It also screened at VIFF (Vancouver), RIDM (Montreal), IDFA (Amsterdam), Cinequest (San Jose), Riviera (Italy), Doc Edge (New Zealand), Bergen (Norway), FReDD (Toulouse), COP26 (Glasgow) among many others and was considered "one of the Top 10 documentaries coming out in 2021" by Doc Weekly. Cedar Island also co-produced THE SEARCH, a feature documentary for the CBC with Shaman Films, plus a handful international service productions in British Columbia and the Yukon, including scripted programs for ZDF and ARD Degeto. Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev founded Nomadic Pictures in 1995. As Co-Chairmen of Nomadic, they have produced, financed, and/or co-financed over Ninety-Three (93) film and television projects. Their feature film debut, “Hugo Pool” (Sean Penn, Robert Downey Jr.), was the audience’s favourites at the 1997 Sundance Film Festival. Since then, Nomadic has produced over $1.1 billion in movies-of-the-week, miniseries, TV series, and feature film projects in Canada, U.S., and Europe.
